Moving over to HTTPS

Moving over to HTTPS

As of writing this post, the entire site has moved over to https using https://letsencrypt.org/ as the key signer and https://certbot.eff.org/ as the software to help configure the certificates. Unfortunately it was not as easy as it was made out to be, but that is partially my fault. I currently host this site on Vultr (that is my Vultr referral link if you would like to give it a try) using the “one click app” which is Cent 6 running nginx.

For an Apache user like myself, it was interesting to see how nginx configures their virtual server blocks. After following the wrong tutorial and finally finding the right one, it took me 5 or so minutes to backtrack and undo the configurations I set up previously. All is well now though.

If you need or want to enable HTTPS I would recommend doing it sooner than later on your site. The simpler the site is, the less headaches there will be to migrate over.
